TOWARDS ENDING GENDER STEREOTYPES IN EDUCATION

The project is supported by  the Kingdom of Norway, through the Norwegian Embassy, and the Kingdom of Sweden through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), The Secretariat for European Affairs of the Government of North Macedonia, UNOPS.

Duration of the project: 10 months

Budget: 37.740 USD

 

Overall objective:

Contribution towards advancing gender equality and challenging gender stereotypes and prejudices in the educational system.

 

Project stakeholders/ target groups:

- Representatives of educational institutions: Teachers and pedagogical officers;

- Representatives of state institutions: Ministry of Education and Science, Bureau for Development of Education, Ministry of Labour and Social Policy;

- General public: Online users;

- Representatives of Academia: Faculty of Pedagogy, Faculty of Philosophy, Gender studies, Faculty of Law, Social sciences research institutes;

Specific objectives

- To strengthen the capacity of institutions, teaching staff and pedagogical services in combating gender inequality and stereotypes and prejudices in the educational system;

- To improve knowledge production and data collection in order to reduce gender imbalances;

- To raise awareness of the importance of education as a catalyst for social change and enhancement of human rights, including gender equality;

 

Estimated project results

- Starting a conversation with representatives of the relevant ministries, academia and the BDE to bring to the fore the issue of producing more gender-sensitive textbooks and mainstreaming gender into all areas and stages of learning process.

- Having teachers and pedagogy staff in elementary schools that are more equipped to deal with gender-sensitive issues and are able to function stereotype free

- Three full textbooks analyzed

- 1 video and 9 informational leaflets

- A report with recommendations for improvement

- A practical step-by-step toolkit for gender-conscious teaching

Final beneficiaries 

Pupils, the Government (Particularly MES and the BDE), parents, the labor market in the country, the general public.
