The Instutute for Human Rights held a two day training on April 19 (Friday) and 20 (Saturday) at Hotel Belvedere in Ohrid for legal professionals within the framework of the project Protection against discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity. The training had aimed at building and imrpoving the legal capacities for protection against discrimination based on the aforementioned grounds. During the training the participants had the chance to get more familiar with the legal mechanisms available in North Macedonia for protection against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, as well as the relevant jurisprudence on national and international level regarding the protection from discrimination and protection of human rights with a focus on the categories of sexual orienation and gender identity. One of the lecturers for the training was Judge Margarita Tsatsa Nikolovska who has an experience, inter alia, as a judge at the European Court for Human Rights in Strasburg. The other lecturer was Sofija Bojkovska who is an independent lawyer that successfully represents cases in the field of (anti)discrimination before the national authorities as well as in front of the ECtHR.
